What Time Do K-Dramas Air in the US? A KST Converter Guide

- Posted in K-Drama by - Permalink

You found your next K-drama. You know it airs on Friday at 21:50 KST. And then the mental math begins: okay, Korea is... what, 13 hours ahead? Or 14? Is it Daylight Saving time right now?

Skip it. Here's everything you need to know — and a tool to do the conversion for you.

The Short Answer: KST Is UTC+9

Korea Standard Time (KST) is UTC+9, and it never changes. Korea does not observe Daylight Saving Time, which means the offset between KST and US timezones shifts twice a year — in March and November — when the US clocks move but Korea's don't.

Here's the current offset at a glance:

During US Daylight Saving Time (March – November)

US Timezone Offset from KST Example: 21:50 KST
Eastern (ET) KST − 13 hours 8:50 AM ET (same day)
Central (CT) KST − 14 hours 7:50 AM CT (same day)
Mountain (MT) KST − 15 hours 6:50 AM MT (same day)
Pacific (PT) KST − 16 hours 5:50 AM PT (same day)

During US Standard Time (November – March)

US Timezone Offset from KST Example: 21:50 KST
Eastern (ET) KST − 14 hours 7:50 AM ET (same day)
Central (CT) KST − 15 hours 6:50 AM CT (same day)
Mountain (MT) KST − 16 hours 5:50 AM MT (same day)
Pacific (PT) KST − 17 hours 4:50 AM PT (same day)

Note: Most K-dramas that air in the evening KST will land in the early morning of the same calendar day in the US — not the previous day. A 21:50 KST Friday broadcast reaches US viewers on Friday morning.

Just Use the Converter

Doing the math manually is fine once. But if you're tracking a currently-airing drama every week — especially around DST changes — the easiest move is to let the tool handle it.

Enter any KST time and it instantly shows you ET, CT, MT, and PT — DST-adjusted automatically.

Common K-Drama Air Times in US Timezones

Most Korean dramas follow a handful of standard broadcast slots. Here are the ones you'll see most often:

SBS / KBS / MBC (Free-to-Air Networks)

Typical slots: 21:50 KST or 22:00 KST on weeknights; 22:00 KST on weekends.

KST ET (DST) PT (DST) ET (Standard) PT (Standard)
21:50 8:50 AM 5:50 AM 7:50 AM 4:50 AM
22:00 9:00 AM 6:00 AM 8:00 AM 5:00 AM

Netflix Korea Originals

Netflix drops episodes at midnight KST (00:00), which translates to the previous day in the US.

KST ET (DST) PT (DST) ET (Standard) PT (Standard)
00:00 (midnight) 11:00 AM (prev. day) 8:00 AM (prev. day) 10:00 AM (prev. day) 7:00 AM (prev. day)

So when Netflix says a Korean drama drops on Friday in Korea, US viewers can watch it Thursday morning.

When to Expect New Episodes on Netflix (US)

This is the question that comes up most. Netflix Korea originals officially release at midnight KST, which means:

  • East Coast viewers get new episodes Thursday at 11:00 AM ET (during DST) or 10:00 AM ET (Standard Time)
  • West Coast viewers get them Thursday at 8:00 AM PT (DST) or 7:00 AM PT (Standard Time)

For SBS dramas streaming on Netflix internationally (like Agent Kim Reactivated), episodes are typically available on Netflix within a few hours of the Korean broadcast — so same-day access for most US viewers.

DST Changes to Watch Out For in 2026

Date What Changes
March 8, 2026 US clocks spring forward — KST offset decreases by 1 hour
November 1, 2026 US clocks fall back — KST offset increases by 1 hour

If you're watching a drama that spans one of these dates, the US air time will shift by an hour mid-run. Korea won't notice. You will.

Quick Reference: Is It the Same Day or Previous Day?

This is the most common point of confusion.

  • Drama airs 09:00–23:59 KST → US viewers watch it the same calendar day (morning/afternoon US time)
  • Drama airs 00:00–08:59 KST → US viewers watch it the previous calendar day (evening/night US time)

Netflix midnight drops (00:00 KST) fall into the second bucket — which is why a Friday Korean release is a Thursday watch in the US.
